ComputerIn searching the Internet I found numerous versions of the classic Real Programmers Don’t Eat Quiche. Every single one of them contained additions and enhancements to the copy in my possession.

Most of the additions are obviously the editor’s idea of what was humorous at the time of editing and not relevant to the time it was originally written. These additions (in my opinion) added nothing to the original version, and in many cases detracted from it. Some versions are attempts to convert the original topic into the editor’s favorite subject.

This version, as extracted from an archive of mine, is an exact copy as I received it in 1984. It bears none of the modifications I found elsewhere. It starts with a premise and correctly ends with that same premise. It is as near as I can determine an unadulterated copy of the original.

Draw your own conclusions.

You can find it here.

When viewed in an historic perspective, it appears that the only programming languages acceptable were assembly and C. Personally, I think this still holds true today.

Another historical note: An item left out of most renditions is the reference to wearing climbing boots in the machine room. Climbing boots (or mountain boots) were on the cutting edge of “camp” at the time and later became the rage.
